Michael’s favorite Buffalo charity is St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy, located on the city’s East Side in one of its poorest communities. Thirty-one years ago, St. Luke’s Co-founder, Amy Betros, received a message from God while on a mission trip to Medjugorie. The message was that she should close her restaurant in Buffalo and open a mission to serve the poor. And if she did that, He would provide. And He has.

John LaFalce (c), served the Western New York Congressional District for 28 years, from 1975-2003. He is seen here holding a Bison jersey which Michael presented to him during a meeting in his Washington, D.C. office. At the time, Michael was part of a group of officials who traveled to the nation’s capital to advocate on behalf of professional baseball’s minor leagues.

In 1989, Michael and a group of Buffalo Bison officials traveled to the nation’s capital to meet with then-President George H.W. Bush and then-HUD Secretary/former Congressman and retired Buffalo Bills Quarterback, Jack Kemp. They were there to receive an award for the Bisons, “Rookie League”, a program that promoted baseball in Buffalo’s inner city.
